THE PROCESS...
TV OR FILM
First of all decide what you are aiming for. Are you aiming to write
for Hollywood's movie industry or the TV Industry? Are you writing for the
US or the UK? Or some other market? Hong Kong? Australia? New Zealand?
Singapore? Malaysia? Germany? France? All of these markets have special
peculiarities and we can put you in contact with people who can advise you in them all. Hollywood is perhaps the
most straightforward to deal with. You write your script and then you find
representation for it and market yourself and your script. The film
industries everywhere have a similar process, though in Hong Kong a script
is perhaps not the best way to tackle the industry. The ability to smash a
block of wood with your forehead is more likely to get you a career than a
sensitively written well structured drama. Television however is a more
complicated affair and each market is organised differently, has different
genres, and different kinds of writing careers. See
TELEVISION.
SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS
The first part of the process is to create movie ideas and
submit them to us.
DEVELOP THE TREATMENT
Once we have agreed upon a story idea, then develop a
six to twelve page outline of the movie under the supervision of an
experienced tutor.
WRITE THE SCRIPT
Once an adequate treatment has been agreed upon, you write a first
draft script and then submit it for notes and feedback. With those notes and correspondence with the tutor
about the script, you will proceed to produce a final draft.
GET INDUSTRY COVERAGE
The final draft will then be passed onto
www.writemovies.com for professional assessment. If the
coverage is positive then you will be offered "management" and
representation will be sought for the script.
THE MANAGEMENT SERVICE
All participants in
The Big On-Line Screenwriters' Workshop are considered
for representation by TalentScout Management.
One of the longest established companies in an industry where
management companies and agencies come and go, TalentScout Management was established in 1991.
Its founder, Alex Ross, was trained as an agent by the Gray/Goodman
Agency of Beverly Hills, where he worked on the accounts of such clients
as Quentin Tarantino, Christopher De Vore (Elephant Man) & Mardik Martin
(Raging Bull).
Never has the entertainment business been more international. With
25% of German television being written by American writers, more and
more French and German stories being adapted into Hollywood movies and
an unprecedented number of writers, actors and directors working in
several languages world wide, there has never been a greater need for a
management company able to represent its clients globally.
SUCCESS
Hopefully, if your script meets with success you will maintain your
relationship with us and continue to subscribe to the service. If it does not,
well we hope that the service has gone some way to helping you develop as a
writer and that your next script will be even better.
Please fill in the
release form and
follow the instructions there before sending us anything.
